Halton Pride 2011 will be hosted by Enza "Supermodel" Anderson, an icon in the Greater Toronto Area LesbianGay-Bisexual-TransgenderedQueer (LGBTQ) community, who will host the all-day main stage entertainment. "Halton Pride is an opportunity for the LGBTQ community and our allies to celebrate our diversity and ourselves," said Elizabeth Barnett, chair of HOPE. She said the goal of Halton Pride is "to build another dimension to the fabric of diversity and inclusivity in Halton." Halton Pride is a familyfriendly daytime festival featuring a wide range of LGBTQ performances, raffle prizes, a marketplace featuring craft and community displays, and activities for both children and adults including children's storytimes and face-painting and audience participation ballroom dancing tutorials. There will be a pay-whatyou-can barbecue run by volunteers from Halton police. HOPE is a registered charitable, not-for-profit, volunteerrun organization serving the LGBTQ community in Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville. Reduce the risk of West Nile virus The start of the warm weather means West Nile virus (WNV) season is quickly approaching. Beginning in May, Halton Region's Health Department will be monitoring the mosquito population to determine the human risk of WNV. When required, the Region will also begin larviciding catch basins and other public areas of standing water where mosquito larvae have been identiÍed. Help reduce the risk of WNV by removing standing water where mosquitoes like to lay eggs, including old tires, toys, clogged eaves troughs, plant saucers--anywhere water can gather for seven days or more.
