Crews looking for well, structures Continued from pg. 4 The crews are excavating areas in block-fashion, stripping the topsoil looking for artifacts such as wells, fences, or structures. The excavation is being done by hand or machine. The soil is screened through a 6mm mesh to recover artifacts. The artifacts are gathered and documented to understand the cultural significance of the site. A minimum of 90 test pits are being dug for the Eighth Line Methodist Chapel Site and 40 to 50 are planned for the Hornby Village site. Site features are recorded to a grid and then mapped. Joseph Choi, Manager, Transportation Design and Construction Public Works, said a report will be prepared documenting the findings and submitted to the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. Depending on what's found, if it's something really significant, Choi said it could impact the timeframe of the Steeles Ave. road widening. The Region plans to widen Steeles Ave. from Trafalgar Rd. to Eighth Line N. next spring to be completed in the summer of 2013. Plans for the rest of Steeles Ave are: begin widening from James Snow Parkway to Fifth Line S. this fall-- with completion scheduled for 2013. Next up is the above-mentioned section to Eighth Line N., then Fifth Line to Trafalgar Rd. to begin in the summer of 2013, to be completed summer 2015. Eighth Line N. to Winston Churchill Blvd. is designated to be constructed in the fall 2013 with completion in summer 2015. DON'T GET PAID TIL NEXT MONTH?
