18 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, June 23, 2011 Acton man to launch CD at Tanners on Friday By TED BROWN Staff Writer The mood at Tanners Bar and Grill will be mellow and relaxed as local crooner Monty Greig will launch his first CD entitled Monty, Friday (June 24) night. "I've been singing for about 18 years," said the 11-year resident of Acton. "I've played gigs all over Ontario with a rock and roll band called One Night Stand, but more recently started to sing the type of music that Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin made popular. `Crooner' music is becoming amazingly popular with the younger kids." The party runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Greig has brought in local Acton acoustic guitarist Lazy James to open for him, before he takes to the stage himself. "I'll be giving away a few CDs and it should be a great evening," said Greig. "I'm looking forward to launching this CD in my hometown." The CD has 12 tracks, all `old school' music as Greig says, and copies will be available at the party as well. In addition to his music career, Greig has also been working as an actor, having appeared in Urban Legends as well as an upcoming movie called A Case of Deceit in which he plays a Russian crime boss. It is set to be released June 30. Closer to home, Greig has been known for setting up a haunted house in his back yard for kids to tour every Halloween, with collected donations going to Acton FoodShare. Tanners Bar and Grill is located 40 Eastern Ave., directly across the street from the Hide House.
