To promote the release of their newest EP, Thunderhawks will be rocking St. John's United Church in Georgetown on Saturday July 9. "We're really excited, and we're very proud of the album," said Jeff Richards, front man of Thunderhawks. Richards has been singing in the pop punk band since its inception in 2008. Although the band has experienced member changes, the five-piece Georgetown band is incredibly proud, and excited for the release of its second record. Thunderhawks regularly perform across the GTA. With members from Gergetown and Acton, Thunderhawks released their first self-titled EP in March of 2009. They then embarked on their first tour of the Canadian east coast in July of last year. "Starting off in a small town everyone knows you," Richards said. "There's not really a lot to do, and when there is a show you get a lot of the same people coming out. Playing in small towns is way better than in a big cities. For some reason I find the smaller towns bring out the most people. They are always the ones to spread the word about your band." The band's newest recording was recorded at Paragon Studios in Caledon. Richards said that this effort promises more structure, and more in-depth song writing. "We came first on this record," he said. "We started writing music so that when we play it, we enjoy it. Hopefully everyone else enjoys it too. Tongues is a lot easier to listen to, and every song is different. We've cut down on the riffs and focused more on the song writing itself." The July 9 concert will include support from Georgetown locals Half Beat, as well as Toronto band Teenage Kicks, and July. The evening promises to be a night of safe, fun, rock and roll in Georgetown. "Georgetown shows are always incredible, and we're hoping to make this one the best," Richards said.
