Greidanus and pals to perform three August piano concerts For the third summer in a row, local conductor and concert pianist Ron Greidanus just can't sit still. Next month he is planning three Tuesday summer concerts for two pianos and a piano quartet. On August 2 and 9, Greidanus will team up with pianist Katheryn Tremills, no stranger to Georgetown's concert-going audience. The first concert will offer a program of three Etudes Tableaux-- Greidanus's favourite composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto, in B flat minor will then follow performed on two pianos. August 9 offers an even more difficult piano concerto by Rachmaninoff, No. 3 in D minor. This work is considered by most to be the most difficult in the repertoire. The third concert on August 16, presents a new format. Greidanus will be joined by violinists Edwin Huzinga, and Carol Gimble and cellist Mary Katherine Finch. 9 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, July 26, 2011 RON GREIDANUS The four performers have formed a new piano quartet and will present Faure's piano quartet No.1 in C minor. Finch will also play Chopin's Polonaise Brillante to lighten things up. All concerts take place at 157 Main Street South in Georgetown. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at Food Stuffs, 89 Main Street (905-877-6569) or by calling Greidanus at 905873-9909.
