Fred Helson, a long-time resident and supporter of Georgetown Hospital, pledged an astonishing $1 million for the CT Scanner Suite at the hospital, kicking off the GHF Campaign for Georgetown Hospital: Investing in Care ­ Close to Home. Welcome Aboard The Georgetown Hospital Foundation would like to announce two new Directors who joined the Foundation Board this spring: · Alan Kogon will sit on the Governance & Nominating Committee. Mr. Kogon is presently a partner at the legal firm Helson Kogon Ashbee and Schaljo, and will bring his legal experience and knowledge of the charitable sector to help assist the Foundation in governance matters, planned giving and numerous other matters. · Michele Giesen is the new representative for the Georgetown Hospital Volunteer Association (GHVA). Michele serves on the GHVA Board and will be a strong link between our two organizations. We look forward to working with you both ­ welcome aboard! Georgetown Hospital Award of Excellence To honour their commitment to the community and the hospital, the new CT Scanner Suite at Georgetown Hospital will be named after Fred and his late wife Marg. Over the years, the Helsons have been strong supporters of the hospital, and among the most generous and involved. Mr. Helson presently sits on the Board of Directors for the Foundation and serves on the Governance Committee. The Helsons long-time support of the hospital and community is truly inspiring ­ they have made their mark in Georgetown, and now with the $1 million gift, Mr. Helson is leading the way with the biggest pledge in Georgetown hospital's history. Thank you to the Helsons for this gift and for their years of commitment to the hospital! Halton Healthcare Services continues to seek approval and funding support for a small expansion project to accommodate the CT Scanner and to improve the layout of Diagnostic Imaging and Emergency. On May 24, 2011 Halton Hills Town Council approved a grant of $2.682 million to support this project. Once the local share plan has been confirmed the redevelopment plan will be finalized and submitted for approval so that this very exciting project can begin. On Thursday, June 16, 2011 Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) held their Annual General Meeting and Awards Ceremony, where the Georgetown Hospital Award of Excellence was presented to this year's recipient. The award is presented to a staff member at Georgetown Hospital who displays a commitment to our patients and their families, demonstrates professional standards of practice and who is respected for their leadership and strong support of HHS' core values. This year's recipient was Jennifer Firth, Senior Physiotherapist, Rehab and Geriatric Program who has been a staff member for over 16 years. HHS would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to Jennifer on this achievement.
