More than 21,000 items were borrowed from the new Acton Branch of the Halton Hills Public Library during the month of May. This is a 194% increase over May 2010's circulation of 7,219. Circulation refers to the number of items borrowed by patrons and includes books, DVDs, magazines, CDs, video games, e-books, etc. It is measured by the Library on a monthly basis and helps in evaluating performance. Some of the most popular segments in the Library's collection include: junior paperbacks (circulation up 450%), adult non-fiction (circulation up 188%) and DVDs (circulation up 203%). The Library will be launching two new lending programs. The first is a DVD borrowing program called "Quick Flicks" which will see the introduction of newly released, highly acclaimed DVD titles such as The King's Speech. Quick Flicks will be made available on a `first come, first served' basis, and can be borrowed free of charge for three days. The second new program to be introduced this summer will allow adults free access to an e-reader. Thanks due to the Ministry of Tourism and Cul- ture's investment in public libraries, funds have been made available for the Halton Hills Public Library to purchase several KOBO Touch Edition e-readers. Each e-reader will be preloaded with popular titles and will be available for borrowing. This e-reader program will give adults an opportunity to experience and enjoy this new technology. The new Acton Branch officially opened in February 2011. The renovation and expansion of the Georgetown Branch is underway and is expected to be completed by the fall 2012. In the meantime, a fully functional branch, complete with free Internet, is temporarily located at 224 Maple Avenue in Georgetown-- the entrance is at the back of the building. The Halton Hills Public Library (HHPL) provides free access to bestselling books, newly released DVDs, magazines, CDs, E-books, research and more. The Library's professionally trained staff are online experts and can help make your search for information a success. Every week, approximately 2,220 people come through the Library's doors, in addition to the more than 3,000 people who visit the Library electronically.
