The bantams built a seemingly insurmountable 38-6 lead over the visiting Mississauga Warriors behind three touchdowns by quarterback Tanner Cadwallader, who also kicked five converts. However, the Warriors fought their way back into the contest with several quick scores in the second half. The Tide stopped Mississauga's final possession as time expired to hold on for a 38-34 victory in front of a full house at Georgetown's Kiwanis Field. Michael Turner and Davis Rapagna both rushed for TDs and Marceillo Imbiscuso was credited with a safety. The junior varsity Tide's path to the championship was slightly more difficult, having to travel to Tottenham Sunday to take on the 8-1 TNT Express. The Tide had revenge in mind after dropping a regular-season contest to the Express in June. They would not be denied on this day. Haydn GaskillCadwallader wore down the Express defence with tough inside runs, adding a key second-half touchdown. Quarterback Daniel Bateman threw two touchdown strikes, one requiring a brilliant catch by wide receiver Jordan Naraine. Running back/safety Brandon Gordon scored the deciding touchdown and intercepted a pass with one minute left in the fourth quarter to seal the 28-21 victory for North Halton. The varsity Crimson Tide played a tough Hamilton squad at Ivor Wynne Stadium Sunday and fell 27-10 in a spirited affair. Both the bantam and junior varsity championship games will be played this weekend at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke. The JV Tide faces off against the Hamilton Steelers Saturday at 2 p.m., while the bantams also drew the Steelers in their division with the game slated for Sunday at noon.
