24 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, August 18, 2011 Registration begins soon for seniors' programs By FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre We are over half way through August and are beginning to look forward to what classes to take in the upcoming season. Just like the stores who already have out their fall and winter merchandise, we too are planning ahead. The Fall and Winter Halton Hills Community Guide came out this week. It contains a complete list of all Active Living Programs being offered at your Centre, dates, and costs. It includes a registration form for your convenience. You may also register online. You are still able to get a registration form from Sherry at the Centre. She will accept your completed forms and pass them on, along with your payment, to the Town. Don't hesitate or it may be too late! Plans are underway for a big fundraiser for our Centre to be held at Georgetown Alliance Church on the Eighth Line (Main St. S). There is a need for more space than we can muster and they have kindly offered us that space. It is singing group called The Justus. The date is Sunday, October 16 at 3 p.m. Tickets will be $15 and will be available from Reception. We are depending on the support of all members and friends of the Centre. Light refreshments will follow the performance. Open House week is being held from September 12-16. There will be several demos held throughout the week. Along with the Welcome Back BBQ on Tuesday, September 13, there will be great display of upcoming travel trips both day and overnighters. Of course, you don't want to miss my famous cookies but only if you come and say hello to me. A schedule of Open House events will be in the upcoming September/October HillsView to be available the last week of August and in The Independent Free Press. Those volunteers working on reception have been called regarding a refresher meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 8. It is essential that all persons attend. There have been many changes and additions you will need to know for future reception volunteering. August 19 is last day to sign up for the Credit Valley Train Ride. Hope to see you soon. Traffic in and out is difficult. Just be patient and the crew will help you. Still time to enter Library's Ink Project There is still time for young people to enter Halton Hills Public Library's 3rd annual Ink Writing Project, a creative writing and illustration contest for young people in Grades 4-12. The last day to enter is Saturday, Aug. 27. There are 12 $50 prizes. Pick up an entry form in either branch. For more information, call 905-873-2681 ext. 2520 or 519-853-0301.
