14 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, August 25, 2011 Tickets on sale now for joint Seniors Centre dance By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre The Tuesday afternoon movies have been well attended. Michelle asked me to mention that starting in September, the movies will return to every other Tuesday. There is always a poster on the bulletin board opposite the desk for you to check the movie and date. I don't see much interest in the joint Acton and Georgetown dance at the Acton Legion on Friday, Sept. 23. If you are interested please write your name on the list to give us some idea of how many might attend. The tickets are $8 per person and available at the front desk. Thinking of fun, the next so- cial dinner will be on Tuesday, Sept. 6. Swiss Chalet chicken and baked potatoes will be on the menu, and Juke Box will be entertaining us again this year. I think they are one of my favourite husband and wife duos. They always look as if they are enjoying themselves. The latest Halton Hills Community Activity and Service Guide is now at the Centre. If you didn't receive a copy we have lots at the Centre. All Try It programs for the Open House at both the Acton and Georgetown Centres are listed on page 34. The name drawn at the weekly 50/50 draw had not put her loonie in the box, so next week the amount should be around $200. Free Agents Trio to play at Acton Legion By SHARON A. GRAHAM Acton Legion News Entertainment chair Tony Rouse would like to thank everyone for coming out on Friday, Aug.12 for an evening with the Falcons. Thank you to all of the cooks who prepared the dinner: John Wagg, Tammy White, John Miles, Cathy Munday and Brenda Munro and to the following who helped serve Steve Richardson Tony Rouse and Wayne Young. Everyone enjoyed the meal. Tomorrow night (Aug. 26) the band Free Agents Trio will be playing on the patio, 7-11 p.m. with a BBQ, 6-8 p.m. You might want to bring a sweater as it is getting cooler in the evening. On Saturday, Sept. 10, come out and enjoy our live entertainment with Cosmic Warehouse. On Aug. 28 there is a drill seminar, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. hosted by Acton Legion for all of our Zone Branches including our Zone Ladies Auxiliaries. Agenda includes basic drill, saluting, marching, etc. If you need more information, contact Comrade George DeRabbie, 519-853-5150. Thank you to Cathy Munday and volunteers, for hosting the annual fishing derby & family fun day on the weekend. A thank you also goes out to the people that have made donations: Trevor Bunn (Pure Fishing) Branch 197, Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Mike Hedley, John Wagg, Nancy Thompson, Larry McAfee. Thanks again for making the day such a success. Lots of good prizes for the biggest fish to the smallest then a BBQ. Even the rain could not spoil the fun. On Sunday, September 11, it's the Veterans Visit to the Branch, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. We have entertainment for them to enjoy. 197 Typhoon Squadron is holdingn its Recruitment night Sept. 6, 7 p.m. at the Acton Legion. We look forward to seeing you there.
