Halton bands teaming up for Live 4 Life concert this Saturday Aspiring playright to direct GLT shows The Halton Suicide Prevention Coalition, along with volunteers from Compassion and Peace and Canadian Mental Health Association-Halton Region Branch, has organized Live 4 Life: Concert for a Cause featuring local bands across Halton in support of suicide awareness Saturday, Sept. 10. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness for World Suicide Prevention Day and to educate residents on how suicide can be prevented. All proceeds will go to local programs promoting suicide prevention and awareness. Local artists volunteering their time and talents include: Left Turn City, Polarity, VOSQQ, Arsonist, Sunrise Salvo, Speedball Tucker, Jim Lefrancois & Rob Joy, Karen Duroucher, Tim Alberts and Hannah Chapplain, Chris Golden, The Prodical Son, as well as an Ian O'Brien, an aspiring actor and playwright from Georgetown, will be directing his first play at GLT's second annual The Studio Shows on September 8, 9, 10 at the GLT studio at 33 Stewarttown Rd. GLT prides itself in its promotion of theatre among young people in the community. A graduate of Fanshawe College's Theatre Arts program, O'Briend hopes to pursue a career in IAN theatre. As O'BRIEN a writer, O'Brien has been heavily influenced by the late 20th Century absurdists such as Ionesco and Beckett, as well as writers and theorists like Artaud and Jarry. His plays thrust characters at the end of their tolerance into impossible situations, forcing them to deal with the fruitlessness of endeavor and the mortality of existence. Placid Ends At Mothballed Beginnings is O'Brien's first play, written in his first year of Theatre School. It is a combination of three short plays written around the same time. Three pairs and their god inhabit an area as close to nowhere as possible. In here they suffer and mourn in complete and chilling isolation, while the deity feeds on what morsels of emotion it can gather from them. Most importantly, it is an experiment in text, sound, and shade. Please come with an open mind, and be prepared to ask questions. Be aware that the play contains strong language, violence, and some sexuality. This play will be the closing play of The Studio Shows. Time Flies and I'm Herbert will be performed prior to the intermission. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. Reservations may be made by phoning the studio at 905-877-3422.
