Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness. Area residents are opposed to plans for a bridge on Danby Road that would cut through green space. Photo by Ted Brown Plans need `revisiting' Continued from pg. 1 As a result of the congestion the road will be hazardous, she said, adding there is already a speeding problem there. Hollett is also concerned about the wildlife in the valley system. "There's a beaver there, there's a blue heron," she said. Although the plans have been in place for the bridge for years Hollett said those should be reconsidered in light of the changes in the community since then. "We feel the community has grown and changed. It's primarily a young community now with a school and a park, so those plans need to be revisited." Hollett said there are several young families, like hers, living on Danby Rd. "Just because something's in the plan doesn't mean this should happen," said Hollett. "If it goes through shame on this council." She believes there are many other east-west options in the area that traffic could use including Argyll Rd. and 10 Sideroad. "Why the investment to connect through a beautiful green space?" she asks. She stressed the pedestrian pathway in the park will now lose its appeal. "Who is going to want to use that when it's going to be... overrun by cars?" said Hollett. Hollett is urging other area residents who are upset about the Danby Rd. bridge to contact Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette or their councillor to voice their opposition. She and some of the other residents have already met with councillors and Town staff on the issue. Regional Councillor Jane Fogal said she's "happy" the residents raised the issue. She said the fact that there will be development on the west side of the valley can't be changed, but "maybe there are some ways to restrict some traffic." Fogal said the fire department is firm that there needs to be two ways to get to a fire. It's unknown exactly when the bridge would be built, said the Town's Director of Planning, Development and Sustainability, John Linhardt. Linhardt said it will be built by Fernbrook as part of the third phase of its subdivision there. Fernbrook has recently submitted a revised draft plan of subdivision which shows the bridge. The revised plan has been circulated for review and comment to Town staff and external agencies. "I anticipate that the approval process for this proposal will extend into 2012," said Linhardt. He said the public will have an opportunity to comment before council makes a decision on the revised plan and related zoning bylaw amendment. Once the subdivision receives draft plan approval Linhardt said the developer will have up to three years to fulfill the various conditions in order to receive final approval and be able to register the plan. Linhardt said Danby Rd. is considered a collector road-- to connect neighbourhoods and distribute traffic to and from arterial roads.
