26 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, September 22, 2011 SPORTS & LEISURE Kin ball champs determined Following are the championship game results from the Kinsmen Girls' Softball League's recent Day of Champs held at the Georgetown Fairgrounds: Optimist Club 18, Sunrise Acres 17 The Optimist Club was the only KGSL team to hold on to their first-place title at the Day of Champs. The Ernst sisters set the tone for their team. Daniela went 3-for-3 with two singles, a double and three runs, while Angelika hit 3-for-3 with two singles, a triple and two runs. McKenzy Brown also went 3-for-3 in the final game, including three singles and two runs, while Nicole Sutej rounded out the bats by hitting 2-for-2 with two singles and two runs. Sunrise Acres brought their big bats to the Junior Division finals. Madison Tate and Jenna Innes led the bats for their team with both girls going 3-for-3 with three singles and two runs. Ashlyn McKay and Courtney Weatherall rounded out the offence by hitting 3-for-3 with three singles and by scoring one run each for their team. Dairy Queen 16, Dunlop Insurance 11 Dairy Queen's winning momentum and big bats from the semifinals carried over into the championship game, where the girls beat first-place Dunlop Insurance to claim the championship title. Andie Field was a great help at the dish, going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. Cara Brown was also a major contributor, going 3-for-3 at the plate, including two singles, a double, three RBI and four runs. Taryn Daugherty went 2-for-2 with a single, a double, an RBI and three runs, while Jordan Tepsa hit 2-for-3 with a single, a double, two RBI and three runs. Dunlop Insurance started a late-game rally but ran out of time Junior Division Senior Division before they could overtake DQ. Dunlop's Kyla Fife had the best batting record on her team, going 2-for-2 with two singles, three RBI and three runs. Candice Ciullo also went 2-for-2, including a single, a double and an RBI. Susannah McKenzie-Sutter got herself on base and across the plate three times, while Julia Parker found herself on base twice with a single, an RBI and a run scored. Championship Halton Commercial Printers 23, Stage West 14 With their win over Stage West in the Elite Division finals, Halton Commercial Printers is one of the few KGSL teams to have claimed back-to-back championship titles. HCP's pitchers-- Cassandra Collis, Emily Woudstra and Jordan Tassie-- played a major part in the victory, using their combined talents to slow down Stage West's hot bats. In addition to their solid pitching, all three girls also hit well. Woudstra went 3-for-4 with a single, two doubles, three RBI and four runs, while Collis contributed with a 4-for-5 game that included four singles, four RBI and four runs scored. Tassie went 2-for-4 with two singles, an RBI and two runs, and also made a good catch in the field in the first inning. Stage West was helped out by a couple of hot hitters during the final game. Sam Stull led the way for her team, going 3-for-3 with a single, a double, a triple and three RBI. Stull also scored four runs for her team and made a great shoestring catch in the seventh inning. Meagan Tibbits also had a good day at the dish, going 4-for-4 with two singles, two doubles and five RBI. Kaylyn Pshyk hit 2-for-5 with a single, a double, two RBI and two runs, while Kendra McCutcheon contributed a double, an RBI and three runs to her team's effort. Elite Division Beaming over gymnastics Twelve-year-old Anna Mazur of Georgetown was in a beaming mood about the recently begun fall season of programs at the Halton Hills Gymnastics Centre. In conjunction with last Saturday's Canada Sports Day, the HHGC held its annual open house at its 36 Armstrong Ave. facility.
