Antiques Appraisal Show coming to Georgetown The Antiques Road Show is a very popular PBS television show in which participants bring their treasures and heirlooms to be viewed by all and informally appraised by experts. St. George's Anglican Church, 60 Guelph Street, is proud to be getting its own version of this show coming to the Parish Hall on Saturday, October 1, from 1-4:30 p.m. For a modest fee of $20 per item for appraisal, which also includes tea and cakes while you watch the show, or $5 for tea and cakes to just watch, you can find out what your valuables are finally worth without the expense of taking it to an estate appraiser. That being said, Century Estate Services, which is donating their services, is generously offering a twohour consultation or official appraisal record valued at $300 to auction off during the show. The only exception to items able to be appraised will be jewelry, as special equipment is required, otherwise bring your silver, furniture, books, pictures or whatever heirlooms, memorabilia, collectables or treasures you are curious to know about. From past experience, a very eclectic mix of things will be brought, which adds to the fun and interest. Because only 40-50 items will be able to be appraised within the allotted time frame, it is requested that you pre-register by contacting Kyle Jones at 905873-2073 or pkjones@ cogeco.ca. Those that register are asked to please pre-pay for your time slot prior to October 1st so that an appraisal can be assured of a spot. There is a limit of two items per family for appraisal to give everyone an opportunity to participate. The show will start at 1 p.m., but start bringing your things at 12:30 p.m. so the show is ready to roll. Overflow parking available at Georgetown District High School. Cost will be $20 per appraisal item, tea and cakes included and only $5 to watch the fun and have tea. 27 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, September 22, 2011 Being a parent is hard. We are definitely living in interesting times. No time in recent history has a negative U.S market created such a great opportunity for Canadians to be buying a home or refinancing an existing home or to consolidate those pesky credit cards and other debts. The slowing of the U.S. recovery and their most recent decision to keep low interest rates until 2013 combined with our strong resource based economy and strong dollar, creates an unprecedented opportunity to buy and mortgage real estate. The Bank of Canada has been in an uncomfortable position of balancing increasing household Canadian debt and a strong dollar so are being pressured to keep rates at historical low levels.
