Local artist's weekend show gets $25,700 Trillium grant Georgetown artist Bonnie Glass and her fellow organizers of Just for Us Originals: The Wearable Art Show are celebrating the recent award of an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant. The $25,700 will play an important role in expanding awareness of this annual show and sale, which will take place for the fifth time on Sept. 23 and 24 at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. This year's show will include 40 Ontario artists who specialize in wearable art ranging from clothing and hats to handbags and jewellery. Admission is free, and two fashion shows featuring work by participating artists will be held each day. Glass dreamed up the event back in 2007, when she realized that many Canadian artists specializing in the field of wearable art simply aren't receiving the exposure they deserve. In collaboration with a handful of supporters, Glass produced the inaugural show in March 2007, relying on a shoestring budget and a lot of enthusiasm. Just for Us Originals has grown steadily each year, but the organizers want even more people to experience the show, its artists and their work. With the help of the Trillium grant, which has allowed the organizers to invest in permanent signage and to hire a professional publicist for the first time, the ambition is to see many more people out to the show and sale this year. It crowns five years of team work aimed at making this show THE wearable art show in Ontario," said Glass.
