38 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, September 22, 2011 Georgetown rug hooker featured in Ohio exhibit Rug hookers from around the world travelled to Archbold, Ohio in August for what many consider is one of the top rug hooking events in the country-- Sauder Village Rug Hooking event, and there they saw rug from local artisan Susan Grant. Her submission was part Celebration Exhibit, featuring award-winning rugs from Rug Hooking Magazine's 21st annual "Celebration of HandHooked Rugs" issue. All of the Celebration award-winners were invited to share their rugs in this exhibit featuring some of the best examples of rug hooking from around the world. Grant said, "The rug Shah Abbas (40"x78") was made for my sister Shirley Davies who asked if I would make her a large rug for her home; she then promised that she would make me a bed quilt in return. The pattern has two dominant medallions. I chose colours she would like, one medallion is peacock blue to blue violet, the other is reddish orange to brick red. The colours for the rest of the rug were planned around the medallions greens, yellows, aubergine and camel. The rug turned out lovely and it was my rug hooking group who encourage me to enter it in the Celebration Competition." Dice Run earns $9,600 for hospital The inaugural Dice Run for Georgetown Hospital drew over 100 riders despite taking place in a rainstorm as the 130km trip took the motorcyclists to stops in Guelph, Belwood Lake, Hillsburgh and back to the Georgetown Legion recently.
