18 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, October 6, 2011 Soul Influence shares an African beat with a message Popular a cappella group, Soul Influence, will be sharing its distinct African musical talent when it performs at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Acton on Sunday, October 16, at 6:30 p.m. The gospel group known for its African rhythm and beat has sung alongside artists like Alicia Keys, Nelly Furtado, Chioniso Mawarire, K-OS, Keisha Chante and Stephen Page. Music has always been the driving force behind Soul Influence. The group's name reflects its desire to influence souls through its music ministry. The music is deeply rooted in African tradition and culture but the message is universal-- it's the message of Jesus Christ. It hopes to share the story of love, love that knows no boundaries and responds to those in dire need. It has a message of hope in a world where the future is bleak and uncertain. It hopes to ignite a flame in the people to help the underprivileged facing all forms of social injustices. Its music is the voice of the voiceless. As AIDS Ambassadors to Africa, Soul Influence has been raising awareness of the urgent need to help those plagued by the pandemic. As Christians, Soul Influence wants to be the truth bearers, living examples that will fulfill the great commission given by Jesus Christ. The public is invited to experience the simple melodies and richly lay- ered vocal harmonies when young people from Ghana, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Zambia come together and accept a call to work for God through the unifying power of music and its ability to transform lives. For more information call Bethel Church, 519-853-2121. The event is free; however a freewill offering will be taken. Nursery care is available.
