The Fourth Annual Walk for Georgetown Hospital raised more than $85,000-- with more than half of that coming from hospital employee Michelle Cooper and her Brampton family. The total brought in at the 5 km walk held Sunday, Sept. 25 well surpassed the $45,000 goal, and last year's $40,000 raised. "This has been the best Walk for Georgetown Hospital to date," said Hospital Foundation chair Laurent Thibault. "We had record numbers of people turn out for this event including the mayor, Town councillors and provincial candidates. Together everyone raised more than $85,000, with an astounding $46,250 coming from Michelle Cooper and her family." Cooper works in the hospital's ER admitting department, an area that is part of the planned expansion. Cooper, along with her father, Brampton Regional Councillor Paul Palleschi, her husband, brother and sister-in-law and nieces banded together to raise the money and won the trophy for top fundraising team. "My mother also worked at Georgetown Hospital. For many years, before I began to work there, the hospital was a centralized part of my family's life, and I could not think of a better way to honour that then fundraising to keep the hospital moving forward with funds for the expansion project, " said Cooper. Money raised in the Walk went to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation's Investing in Care-- Close to Home campaign to raise funds for the new and expanded Emergency Department and renovations to the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
