SHOPLOCAL SHOP SMART... SHOP HALTON HILLS PEOPLE IN BUSINESS Acton Denture Clinic Tracy Mitchell has been a practicing denturist for over 12 years. She has served Acton and surrounding communities for over 10 of those years at her clinic, the Acton Denture Clinic. As an honour graduate from George Brown College in both Denturism and Dental Technology, Tracy's goal is to provide information and educate her patients. As a denturist, Tracy provides individual, custom fabrication of tooth replacement by means of complete and/or partial dentures. She works independently and with other dental healthcare professionals to serve the public. Tracy completes all aspects in the fabrication of her patients' dentures in her clinic. She starts with the impressions, proceeding to a bite registration, then to the set up of the teeth and a wax try-in. When the patient is pleased with the try-in, Tracy completes the dentures in her on-site lab by processing, trimming and polishing the dentures. All work is completed in-house, along with repairs and relines to existing complete and partial dentures. As a healthcare professional, Tracy is trained to recognize oral health conditions which may be indicators of changes in overall health and well-being. "Every day I am given the opportunity to work with the challenges of individual mouths and educating patients on the importance of restoring missing teeth for overall good health," Tracy says. "It is very rewarding to make a personal connection with people and help to recreate beautiful smiles." 9 PROFILES · Independent & Free Press,Thursday, October 27, 2011 SHOPLOCAL SHOP SMART... Nashville North Kenny Rubin Nashville North wants to be the greatest country bar on planet Earth. The bar, located on Highway 7 in Norval, boasts one of the largest country dance floors in the province and aims to be the line dancing capital of Ontario. After being known as a different name for the last five years, Nashville North returned to its roots - and its original name - under the new management team of Kit Andrew, Kenny Rubin, George Coito and Len Gill, who took over and reopened the bar in May of this year. On Wednesday nights, all levels of dancers are invited to learn how to line dance from 6:30 p.m. onward. Thursday is Z103 night where the latest Top 40 hits are played and Saturday is the bar's legendary country night. "It's a great atmosphere with no attitude," says Kit Andrew, CEO of 13Thirteen Entertainment. "There's electricity here. It's a unique place to come and be entertained." Nashville North is also home to The Tennessee Chop House, a southern barbecue-style restaurant that serves southern favourites like steaks, burgers and pulled pork. Guests can sit back, relax and enjoy a tasty meal while watching the line dancers. "The entertainment is built right in," Kit says. "It's an amazing thing to see all the people line dancing out on the dance floor." Kit Andrew 20 Armstrong Ave., (near Mountainview Rd. N.) Halton Hills Mompreneurs, a chapter of the Ontario Mompreneurs Group, exhibits the creative talents of local women who balance the stresses of running a business with the timeconsuming duties of motherhood. At the monthly meetings, members meet, mingle and network with other like-minded business owners while learning more about running their own businesses. Guest speakers share their wisdom on a variety of topics, from marketing to how to write a business plan. "We are not just moms sharing in the trials and tribulations of parenthood," says chapter owner Adina Ingram, a longtime Halton Hills resident. "We share our successes and shortfalls of business owners, with the philosophy of growing our brand, client-base and awareness of what we have to offer." The Halton Hills chapter, which started in July, will be holding its first Showcase and Family Fun Day on November 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Secondary School. The showcase will include 50 unique and innovative vendors in fields like health, fitness, gifts, baby products, beauty and crafts. Admission proceeds will be donated to Halton Food for Thought. "The vendors offer unique and innovative products and services that the people of Halton Hills might be going out of town to get," Adina says. "There is a lot of talent out there and we want to get the word out about our businesses." Serving women in business in Georgetown, Acton, Rockwood and surrounding areas. Traditional Taste Bakery and Café For Kathleen Terencio, baking is a family business. For more than 60 years, members of her family have been involved in the baking business and Kathleen is carrying on the custom as the manager of Traditional Taste Bakery and Café. Traditional Taste sells a variety of fresh-baked European goods like pastries, cakes and breads, as well as custom cakes for weddings and special occasions. Kathleen has taken the traditions her grandparents passed on to her and put a twist on them by offering everything from homemade favourites to fresh original menu items. She put her passion for cooking to the test by introduced new menu items, including a chicken club sandwich with roasted peppers and pesto mayo, a portobello mushroom sandwich with garlic and herb goat cheese, a tasty Moroccan lentil soup and Portuguese caldo verde. Traditional Taste also offers cold salads, quiches and kabobs, as well as vegetarian options and will be offering gluten free products soon. At the end of the day, watching her customers enjoy their food is what keeps Kathleen going. "When a customer comes back and says, 'The cake and pastries were amazing,' or 'lunch was delicious' makes the hard work and long hours all worth it," she says. 647-964-4245 ADINA INGRAM info@haltonhillsmompreneurs.com www.haltonhillsmompreneurs.com @HHmompreneurs www.facebook.com/haltonhillsmompreneurs 211 GUELPH ST., # 9 GEORGETOWN KATHLEEN TERENCIO 905-702-0081 Located directly across from Georgetown Market Place
