The 21st Scouts/Guide Food Drive for Georgetown Bread Basket is set for Saturday (Nov. 5) and this year's goal is 50,000 lbs. of food. Scouts and guides will be out in local neighbourhoods collecting donations for the food bank. Last year's drive brought in more than 45,000 lbs. of food for Georgetown Bread Basket. Area residents are asked to have their donated food in a bag (provided in last Tuesday's Independent & Free Press) outside of the front door by 9 a.m. for pickup. Items most needed include large cans of juice, canned meat, canned pasta and stews, healthy snacks for kids such as applesauce, powdered milk, coffee and sugar. Maryse Mallet-Sinnis, media co-ordinator for the Bread Basket, said they also have clients with special needs requiring such things as diabetic and gluten-free products, so donations of those items are also needed. There is also a need for low-salt items and Ensure. Volunteers (over the age of 12) are needed to help sort the food at Alliance Church, 290 Main St., S. between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Anyone interested is asked to show up at the church.
