SHONE, Maureen Isabella (nee Gibson) Formerly of Acton, passed away peacefully at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital at the age of 78. Dearly missed by her husband of 56 years, Leonard Shone. Also survived by her sons Graeme (Irene) of Brampton and Andrew (Kim) of Wasaga Beach. Much adored Nana to Adam, David, Michael and Emily. Maureen also leaves behind her younger brother Phil (Jan) in Liverpool, U.K. as well as her nephews Christopher and Scott. Predeceased by her parents Richard and Belle Gibson also of Liverpool. A dancer, ballerina and choreographer, Maureen dedicated her life to the Performing Arts industry. Musical Theatre was her passion, both on stage and behind the scenes. From becoming a tap dancer at the age of 5, to a top-level Solo Seal member of the Royal Academy of Dance at 15 and a touring member of the Royal Ballet in England at age 16, Maureen achieved many of her goals and lived many of her dreams performing on stage in London, Liverpool, Edinburgh, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. She would later go on to teach others, both as an award winning theatre choreographer with The York Minstrels and as a much loved instructor of dance at the Performance Studies department at Sheridan College in Oakville where they have created an annual Scholarship award in her honour. A gifted dancer, an admired teacher, a wonderful mother and a cherished Nana; a life well lived. Many thanks go out to the tireless and dedicated staff at Sunset Manor who worked so hard to make her final chapter of life, both comfortable and dignified. Thanks also go out to Dr. Engell and the staff at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital. At the request of Maureen, there will be no service. Instead, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Fawcett Funeral Home in Collingwood. Many thanks to Danielle York and staff. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada in Maureen's name.
