Light Up the Hills ignites Thursday Light up the Hills Ignition Night is the big celebration that starts the Christmas season with that magical WOW! Thursday, Dec. 1 is Ignition Night in Acton and Georgetown. Both lighting ceremonies start at 7 p.m. Each community event will feature the charming voices of school choirs and the delicious complimentary treats of hot chocolate and cookies. Of course, the highlight of the evening is the flick of the switches to illuminate the Trees of Hope. Bring your cameras and capture that precious moment with special guest, Santa. In Acton, Ignition Night takes place at the Acton Sports Park, beside the Acton Arena & Community Centre on Queen St. (Hwy 7). Hot chocolate and cookies are provided by McDonald's Acton & McMillan's Gourmet Frozen Foods. In Georgetown, Ignition Night takes place at the Dominion Gardens Park, at the corner of Maple Ave. and Guelph St. Also at the Georgetown celebration only, Santa arrives at 5:30 p.m. Light Up the Hills encourages residents to arrive with their cameras to enjoy a visit and picture with Santa. A new treat this year-- you can munch on complimentary hot dogs courtesy of the Georgetown Lions Club. Tim Hortons again will be supplying the hot chocolate and cookies. Music will be featured throughout the evening. Lots of convenient parking is available in the Christ the King High School parking lot on Guelph St., which is adjacent to the ceremony stage area. Once the switch is flicked, the Dominion Gardens Park will be a wonderland of sparkle. This year 50,000 LED high efficiency lights will be illuminating the park. There are 200 lighted trees, many illuminated displays, and decorated light poles. The lights will sparkle throughout the month of December to January 3. Take advantage of this spectacular display of lights and plan a quiet walk on the pathways in Dominion Gardens Park. Light Up the Hills is a community, volunteer non-profit organization. Its hard-working crews have been busy volunteering their time to make this 2011/2012 holiday season special.
