12 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, December 8, 2011 Gifts For Giving Makes A Great Hostess Gift! Srs Centre columnist gets award By FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre The large representation of seniors at the council meeting of Nov. 28 was indication to the Town of Halton Hills Council that we were some disturbed to find that the addition to the Seniors' Centre in Acton and the building of Phase 2 of the Gellert Centre which will include a new Georgetown Seniors Centre have been removed from the Town's 2013-2021 Capital Forecast. This was not honouring a commitment made to the seniors of both Centres, in February of this year, at a council meeting at Christ the King School. We hope, that with all councillors voting in favour of the motion made by Jane Fogal and Jon Hurst at the Nov. 28 meeting, a means will be found to put us back on schedule for the Capital Forecast. We welcome Sherry back after her surgery. I don't think she is up to a jig yet. Heather Beaumont filled in for Sherry. We hope she leaves with good memories of our Centre. Perhaps our paths will cross again. On Friday, November 25, I was presented with the OACAO (Older Adults Centres' Associaton of Ontario) award for Print Media at their Christmas luncheon in Milton. What a great honour! It is always rewarding to receive recognition for something you enjoy doing. And, from your comments I know you enjoy reading my column. Thanks to Terri and the Board of Directors for putting my name forward. The trip to the Daniel O'Donnell Show in Niagara was the last for my Day Trippers for 2011 and I would like to thank all who came along with us throughout the year. Please come into the Travel Desk to pick up our new brochure for 2012. Merry Christmas and Happy Trails in 2012. Those squiggly scarves are flying out of the Centre almost faster than the Craft ladies can knit them. Great Christmas gift! On Thursday, December 15, 1 p.m. you will want to come to the Centre to enjoy a concert of Christmas music with artists Eugene Rea and Nonie Crete. Admission is a tax donation or non-perishable food for the Georgetown Bread Basket. Just a reminder that Dec. 31 is the last day for your 2011 membership card. Looking forward to having lunch or just a good chat with you at the Centre. A. B. C. A. Christmas Holiday Planter Only $14.99 B. Spirit Poinsettia Arrangement Only $9.99 C.
