Gillies on fast track to skeleton success Looking to represent Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia, Georgetown native Corey Gillies (right and below) has been in dominant form this fall in junior skeleton races at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. The 15-year-old is considered one of the planet's top skeleton pilots for his age and recently earned a spot January's Youth Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria by winning all four qualifying races last month in Calgary. The latter two gold medal performances came by a substantial winning margin of close to five seconds over the runner-up. A member of the Slide Canada 2014-18 national development team, Gillies moved with his family to Calgary two years ago in order to pursue his dream of competing in the Olympics. Sanctioned by Central Ontario Section Skate Canada, the event features skaters at all levels and ages from CanSkate to the advanced Senior StarSkaters. The competition will run from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
