18 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, December 15, 2011 2FCÏ0CEGML?J Municipality of Halton www.halton.ca Georgetown Seniors Centre reports a successful 2011 By FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre This will be my last column for 2011 and I will resume the first week of January, 2012. As I think back over the year at our Centre I am reminded of our successes and I believe them to be many. Many of you travelled with us on day trips to varied shows and places of interest. We held two very successful fashion shows, spring and fall. There was great interest and participation in Active Living programs with new ones being introduced. The introduction of the café has proved to be very popular. Drop-in program interest remains high such as Mingle and Chat meeting on Wednesday mornings. They have proved to be a place where to meet and make friends if you are new to the Centre. We are fortunate to have our very own band and drama club to entertain us on many occasions. Our kitchen volunteers are super. They keep the coffee hot, the cookie plate full, and always find something for you to eat. Cards of one sort or another are in process most every day and have welcomed many new members to play. Thank you to all, who work with such efficiency on the Reception Desk. The craft ladies are busy, twice a week, knitting up a storm. Their needles have been clicking trying to keep up with the sales of those squiggly scarves. All of their profits go to the upkeep of the Centre. The Board of Directors have been working to help with the accreditation of our Centre and putting forth a great effort on your behalf to get the Phase 2 at the Gellert Centre started. New members are needed as some will have completed their term. If you have an inclination to become part of this process for two years, see John Daley. He is in charge of nominations. All of these activities and many others are run by volunteers. Maybe you could offer some time in some capacity to become one of our volunteers. On behalf of all those who come through our Centre doors a huge thank you to the two girls in the office, Terri and Sherry, who keep us on track. Don't know what we would do without you! One last reminder that your 2011 membership card runs out December 31, 2011. The Centre will be closed over the holidays on December 26 and 27, open December 28, 29, 30. Closed January 2. Merry Christmas to all and a healthy, prosperous New Year.
