The colder temperatures over the past few days have allowed Glen Eden staff to make up for lost time and layer the slopes in white just in time for Christmas. Glen Eden will open for the season on Boxing Day, Monday, December 26 with three or four of their six lifts and four to five of the 14 runs open. Sean Durkin, Area Manager at Glen Eden says, "We've decided to play it safe and bump back our opening just a few more days to help ensure the best conditions possible for our patrons. We have thousands of pass holders and lesson participants counting on us to make winter happen and we're doing everything possible to get things going for the school break." Located on Kelso Rd., near Tremaine Rd. and Hwy, 401, just west of Milton on the slopes of the Niagara Escarpment, Glen Eden, operated by Conservation Halton, is open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. "It's been a challenging start for all of the ski areas in Ontario this year with everyone having to delay their opening dates, but it's at times like these we are really thankful for having one of the best snowmaking teams in the business working with some of the latest technology available. The investments we've made in snowmaking equipment over the past few years are really paying off this year," says Simon Holden, Manager of Programs and Services at Glen Eden. "We're all skiers and boarders too and are just as keen to hit the slopes as all of our customers, so you can bet we're doing everything we can and making snow at every opportunity." In 2010/11 Glen Eden had its best year ever with over 360,000 visits making it the third most visited ski and snowboard resort/area of the over 40 operations in Ontario. "Despite the slower start to the season we are confident that winter will return to this part of Canada and it will be another stellar season on the slopes," added Holden. Glen Eden will continue to open more terrain and lifts as conditions permit and aims to get the snow tubing park open as soon as possible.
