Driver found guilty in Acton crash STRICTLY FISH & REPTILES The driver of a vehicle that left Queen Street in Acton and struck a tree, killing a Campbellville man and injuring four other passengers April 3, 2010, was found guilty of 14 charges by a jury in Milton court last Wednesday. Todd McGowan, 21, of Mississauga was found guilty of impaired driving causing death, four counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm, dangerous driving causing death, four counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, fail to remain causing death and three counts of fail to remain causing bodily harm. McGowan is to be sentenced in Milton court March 16. The collision occurred about 2:50 a.m. when a Hyundai Sonata, driven by McGowan westbound on Queen St., failed to navigate an S-bend at Young St. and left the road, striking a tree. Jeffrey Sandles, 22, of Campbellville, who was in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18year-old Erin woman was airlifted to a Toronto-area hospital in critical condition and two 20-year-old Georgetown women and a 20-year-old Mississauga man suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police said the driver and the passenger from Mississauga fled the scene of the accident. The driver was found a few hours after the crash on a street in downtown Acton. S. residence after a suspicious powder was found in an envelope. The homeowner started to feel ill after opening the envelope and called Halton EMS. Halton Hills firefighters also responded and entered the home in full protective clothing with a multi-gas detector. They checked the home and no readings showed on the meter. The envelope was placed in a plastic bag and taken outside. Members of the Halton Police explosives unit analyzed the substance and determined it was nothing harmful and believed to be sparkles or imitation snow. ··· Police are investigating the theft of a tractor-trailer loaded with rice and rice flour from Truck Town Terminals on Steeles Ave. sometime this week. Firefighters were met by the animal control officer with the Upper Credit Humane Society who said the deer had just got out of the water before firefighters arrived and was located approximately 150 yards from the shoreline, lying down in the snow adjacent to open water. The sounding of an air-horn enticed the deer to stand up and walk to safety. ··· Fire crews were called to a Hwy. 7 home for a fire in a garage about 2:05 p.m. Thursday. The fire had spread to the rafters and insulation in the ceiling area near the chimney. The building owner was heating the garage with a wood stove. Firefighters quickly knocked the fire down and contained the fire to the roof area.
