Laurie Clayton and Michael Crawley recently released The Women's Club, a new crime thriller published by Max Crime. Both have written books, most under pseudonyms, but this marks their first co-authoring. "We've both written books," said Clayton, "but never wrote one together. It was a great experience, as we added a bit of each other to the book." "I wrote a rough draft, then Laurie would polish it," said Crowley. "We'd send it back and forth to get one voice, creating the plot and sharing the creative process." The book, described by Clayton and Crowley as a study in `what if the women's movement became militant,' and centres around a number of murders committed would be 5,000 copies in the U.K. or U.S." "The book is a bit unique," said Clayton. "In spite of the fact it's a U.K. publisher, we set the story in Seattle-- if you want your books to sell in the U.S., one must have them set in the U.S." "The story was originally roughly set in Toronto," said Crowley, "but once the publisher heard of our story being set in Toronto, he got back to us and said it was okay, but set it anywhere in the U.S." Seattle was chosen as it had similarities to Toronto, and there were enough parallels to make it fit. "I don't think this book should be taken too seriously," said Clayton. "Some of the male readers have had a `hard go' of reading the book, but we don't want that to happen. It's a quick read and should be enjoyed that way." The Women's Club is available at bookstores in the U.K., and online at www. indigo.ca. Most recently, White Rabbit Books, 16 Main St. South, Georgetown has also acquired a limited number of signed copies of The Women's Club. IN MEMORIAM LANDSBOROUGH, Lawrence July 23rd, 1940 - January 10th, 2011 Our hearts still ache with sadness, Our silent tears still flow, For what it meant to lose you, Dad, No one will ever know. Deeply missed, never forgotten. Your loving family Larry, Peter Jim, Leigh Ann and Steven, and all your Grandchildren LAURIE CLAYTON AND MICHAEL CRAWLEY in Seattle. Published in the United Kingdom (U.K.) by Max Crime, the couple found that publisher more receptive to their book, than Canadian publishers. "It's difficult to be published in Canada," said Crowley. "They don't do very big runs, around 3,000 as a first run, which Dorothy Stamp (nee King) October 11th, 1924 - January 10th, 2011 God gave us our Mother, And He tried to be fair, And when He gave us ours, We got more than our share. Although He took her home, One year ago today, We are so grateful, For the years He let her stay. We love and miss you so much Mom.
