16 The IFP · Halton Hills, Thursday, January 19, 2012 Acton Seniors Centre considering new events-- spa days and tea dances By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre Calling all those crafty people. I have tentatively booked a bus for Monday, March 26 to visit Mary Maxims in Paris. The plan is to leave the Centre at 9:15 a.m. and arrive at Mary Maxims around 10:30 a.m. Spend 1 1/2 hours browsing and shopping, then on to Scotts Diner for lunch. You will be able to choose from two different lunches. If time allows you can spend a short while in Paris. We should arrive home around 3:30 p.m. If you are interested please write your name on the signup sheet, so I can work out price and see how much interest there is. If you aren't aware of what Mary Maxims is, they sell crafts, knitting patterns, sewing kits and everything you need to accomplish them. There are a few catalogs available for you to see what they sell, but please return them. This is open to members and non-members. Ladies, are you feeling a little tired and in need of a little lift. There will be a Spa Day at the Centre on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. You do need to sign up so we know how many people are intending to take advantage of this offer. This is a hands-on spa session, and you will leave feeling wonderful. Does anyone remember the afternoon Tea Dances? Pauline Barlow's memories go back further than mine, and she had fond memories of Sunday afternoon tea dances in Britain. She is hoping to have one at the Centre in the near future. There were held on a Sunday afternoon in Britain during and just after the war when most of the men were away from home, and the ladies took a little break, and enjoyed a couple of hours socializing and dancing (sometimes with each other) or sharing the men who were home. The movie being featured on January 31 will be The Help. An excellent recently released movie. It is expected to win awards for the movie, director and the actors. The New Year celebration was a great success. The music was great as usual, and of course, you can't go wrong with Swiss Chalet chicken and Chudleighs Apple Blossoms. The happy winner of the 50/50 was Ann Sanders. She also won a door prize, as did Connie Fix, Bob Bruce, Marg Bromby, Hank Walsma, Annie Hollander and Rita. Maria Sallay donated a beautiful original painting to our fundraising committee, and the happy winner was Victor Bissonnette. The line dancing is a hit. Last week there were 15 people and this Thursday there were 25. It is a drop-in class, and anyone is welcome on Thursday afternoons from 2:30-3:30 p.m. JUNIOR / SENIOR KINDERGARTEN AND FULL-DAY EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM REGISTRATION FOR SEPTEMBER 2012 HALTON CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD Junior Kindergarten or Senior Kindergarten Advanced Registration for those children who will be attending Junior Kindergarten or Senior Kindergarten in Halton Catholic Schools in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills (Georgetown/Acton) will be held at all schools on: TUESDAY, JANUARY 24, 2012 WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 25, 2012 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. AGE OF ADMISSION AND REQUIREMENTS Junior Kindergarten Senior Kindergarten Children are required to be 4 years of age on or Children are required to be 5 years of age on or before December 31, 2012. before December 31, 2012. · Roman or Eastern Rite Catholic Baptismal Certificate is required.
