`Misleading voters is reprehensible': Chong `Full investigation needed': Peters CONTINUED FROM pg. 4 Chong said the woman in Acton was a Conservative supporter. "I think misleading voters on where they should go and vote is reprehensible. These incidents should be investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law," said Chong. Chong said he was not aware of any involvement by the Conservative Party in the phone calls. "If I was made aware of any unethical behaviour I would immediately speak up against it," said Chong. All the facts aren't known and the investigation needs to run its course, said Chong. "I have full faith in Elections Canada to conduct their investigation," said Chong. Barry Peters, the Liberal candidate in the riding during last year's federal election, said during the campaign he was busy knocking on doors so he wasn't often in the campaign office. He said he does recall some people calling asking where their polling station was. "But I don't know if they were calling specifically about misinformation they were receiving," said Peters. Peters doesn't believe Chong was involved in the scandal. "I do not think Michael Chong had anything to do with that. He is too upstanding of a person," said Peters. Peters stressed the importance of a full investigation. "This is a serious matter. We need to get to the bottom of this." He added if there's evidence of wrongdoing the person or party BARRY PETERS, responsible needs 2011 LIBERAL to be brought to jusCANDIDATE tice. Wellington-Halton Hills NDP riding president Noel Duignan said he wasn't aware of any misleading calls to riding residents during the campaign but he "did get a couple of strange calls" at that time, late in the evening. He said he didn't listen to them, however, and just hung up. "If it appears to be true and widespread I don't think it's the work of one individual," said Duignan. "I believe it will be a sad day for Canada and democracy if any political party is pursuing this type of action." In the 2011 spring election, Conservative Michael Chong won more than 63 per cent of the vote-- 26,000 more votes than his nearest rival, Liberal Barry Peters (16.4%). In the previous 2008 election, Chong won with 57.6% of the vote followed by Liberal Bruce Bowser with 22.3%.
