SHOP HALTON HILLS PEOPLE IN BUSINESS Young Dentistry For many Halton Hills residents, Dr. Kevin Young is a familiar face. The local dentist, who opened Young Dentistry in 2010, was born and raised in town and has already spent many years working in Georgetown."I like seeing familiar faces come in and I like the fact that I can provide a service to the town where I grew up" says Dr. Young, who graduated from The University of Western Ontario's dental program in 2003. For Dr. Young, going into the health care field was a natural choice. His grandfather and both parents chose pharmacy as a career and Young's Pharmacy has been the family business for many years."I wanted to do something different," Dr. Young says. "Dentistry was a good fit because it combines science and health care with working with my hands and helping people." Young Dentistry has recently added to the broad range of services already offered. Invisalign 'Invisible Orthodontics' and VELscope Vx oral cancer creening technology are now available in-office. Dr. Young has made the office friendly and welcoming for families, with kid-friendly features like movies and video games. "It's been a wonderful experience being able to start with a blank sheet of paper and build what I think is an ideal dental practice," Dr. Young says. SHOPLOCAL SHOP SMART... Where Active Minds Begin! Since 1984, Oxford Learning has helped hundreds of students go Beyond Tutoring (TM) to reach their learning potential - not just for one grade or one year, but for a lifetime! Using the science of cognitive development, our unique programs teach children how to learn more easily, effectively, efficiently, and permanently. We don't ask students to review and master the same old stuff. We help them build the cognitive and metacognitive learning skills they need to help them absorb, process and understand. Cognitive skills are those used to absorb and process information. Our curriculum and teaching methods change how students learn and think. Students develop confidence because they understand they control how they learn. Khadine Collins-Finlay, Managing Director says "At Oxford, we're more than a business, we're a family. My colleagues and I, and our qualified, enthusiastic teaching staff all work for the greater good of these children. There is nothing that makes us happier than to see a child complete their program and leave Oxford feeling happy and confident. Not only have they achieved their academic goals, they take with them lessons for life. Helping children is what we do. Seeing them smile is what we love. LOVELINX Jewellery Design When Christie Lance-Reaume couldn't find a quality photo frame necklace in a style she liked, she made one for herself. The next thing she knew, she was making custom jewellery for others and founded her very own web-based jewellery company, Lovelinx Jewellery Design. "I made one for myself, then one for my mom and then one for my aunt," she says. "It kind of snowballed from there." Lovelinx's products have proven to be very popular with orders coming in from across the country and around the world. Christie has created a series of high-quality sterling silver and gold jewellery that can be customized in a variety of ways. With the company's picture frame pendant, for example, clients send in photos of themselves or their kids, which Christie crops, shrinks and places in a customized frame pendant, which can be attached to a bracelet or necklace. Lovelinx also creates fingerprint jewellery, where customers are sent a wax kit, make an impression of their child's fingerprint and send it back in, where the prints are transformed into a pendant or cufflinks. "I'm not just making jewellery, I'm making pieces that mean a lot to people and that they really appreciate," Christie says. "I love getting to know my customers and learning what their Lovelinx mean to them." 324 Guelph St., Unit 7 Georgetown KHADINE COLLINS-FINLAY georgetown@oxfordlearning.com 905-877-3163 CHRISTIE LANCE-REAUME www.lovelinx.ca 905.592.1802
