Black History Month At George Kennedy School's recent Black History Month assembly, students re-enacted the 1940s story of black businesswoman Viola Desmond (played by Zoe Knights) telling the story how her car broke down, and while she was waiting for it to be repaired, she took in a movie. Because she sat in a whites-only seat, she was subsequently charged and jailed for her actions As a result of her appeal, the rights of blacks in the Maritimes were improved dramtically. CASLPO Doctor of Audiology Magda Zielisnski, Hearing Instrument Specialist `Obsolete' subdivision plan in Glen turned down by Town By CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer The Town has nixed a draft plan of subdivision and rezoning application for a Glen Williams subdivision. The long-standing plan, which has been on the Town books since 1985, is a 12-hectare property located on the east side of Confederation St., north of Glen Crescent Dr. The applicant, Mon-Con Developments (Bayfield), had planned a 30-lot single detached residential subdivision using municipal water and private septic systems. A public meeting was held in 1991, but the developer had not taken any further action until 2011 when a revised proposal was presented in a pre-consultation Test drive the NEW Agil Hearing Instrument! meeting. But the Planning Department advised many changes have occurred to the Official Plan, zoning, Secondary Plan and provincial policies in the interim, and a completely new application would be required. Ward 2 Councillor Joan Robson applauded the staff decision. "We're looking at something that's obsolete in many ways ... the proposal could not go forward the way it could have in 1985," said Robson, citing environmental issues. "As a council we encouraged our staff to be stricter with these guys (developers) who are dragging their feet," she said. "We can't afford to carry them long periods of times like this and I don't think residents are well served (by the delays)." · Free hearing test (55+, no medical referral) · New 3 year unlimited warranty · 1 year loss & damage protection · Complimentary cleaning, fine-tuning, wax protection systems, domes, battery doors · 1 year battery supply · Best price guarantee (any recent Ontario quote beat by $50) 905-877-0099 Call today!
