Photo by Eamonn Maher Town among many to challenge Province on ROPA 38 By CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer The Town of Halton Hills is among the 41 organizations appealing the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing's changes to the Region's Official Plan amendment related to growth. ROPA (Regional Official Plan Amendment) 38 was approved by the Minister, but was modified, with 165 changes, in November. Some of changes are in areas dealing with such things such as prime agricultural land, future strategic employment areas, transportation corridor, quarrying and the natural heritage system. "The good news is that most of the changes from the Province are technical in nature and do not change the overall intent of ROPA 38 as adopted unanimously from Regional Council," said Mayor Rick Bonnette. "The Town's appeal has been scoped to few key items such as the (inclusion of the) GTA West Corridor and the deletion of Future Strategic Employment Areas (along Winston Churchill Blvd) that may go beyond 2031. The Town is also filing an appeal due to the deletion of "parking and adequacy of urban services" as criteria in which to evaluate a property for a second residential unit. "We are pleased that the decision confirmed Town Council's position regarding moderate growth for the Town to 2031," said Bonnette.
