SATURDAY, APRIL 14, 8:00 PM - 12:30 AM Chapman holds solo exhibition Reception on Saturday Raised Surfaces, a solo exhibition of encaustic paintings by Mary Ellen Chapman opened at Williams Mill Gallery in Glen Williams yesterday and continues to Sunday, April 15th. This collection offers three different themes of wide angle waterscapes, meadows and close ups of treetops. Chapman paints in wax: contrasting the layer of vibrant colours against the thick textures of rocks, wool and bark. "What is fascinating about this pigmentembedded-in-wax technique is that, even after studying these paintings for long periods of time, the viewer can discover new details and levels of meaning," says Chapman. "These are paintings that continue to provide riches for a lifetime of looking." The opening reception is Saturday, April 7, 7-9 p.m. and the artist will be in attendance.
