Looking is a fun play-- `...one finds so easy to sit back and enjoy' By TED BROWN Staff Writer The world of finding love the second time around came to life at Acton Town Hall Centre, as Georgetown Little Theatre opened Looking, a Norm Foster comedy about four people dealing with the angst and downright terror of dating after a divorce. The story follows the antics of Andy and Matt, who go on blind dates with Val and Nina. All four are guilty of handing out bad advice to each other, and in doing so, leave a trail of embarrassments and faux pas in their wake, which keeps the audience in stitches. The strength of the play is the balance of the talent on stage. Lisa Rasanen plays Val, a nurse who is quite cautious and almost old-fashioned about entering the dating world. Rasanen plays the part well, with great facial expressions. Opposite her is Gillian Taggart playing Nina, a hard-nosed police officer who tends to like a good time after her shift at work, but questions herself at times. Taggart is entertaining and the dialogue works for her. Robert Long, playing Matt, gives his character a sense of bravado, but the audience soon sees how vulnerable he is in his loneliness. Long puts in a solid performance. GLT veteran Paul d'Entremont shone as the indecisive Andy. The dialogue was well-suited to d'Entremont (some suggested the part was written for him) and his body language completed the package. The play features virtually no sets, yet the inventiveness of using minor props and occasionally splitting the stage to carry on telephone conversations, made the play work. Looking, directed by James Luckett, is a fun play-- it's one of those rare stage events that one finds so easy to sit back and enjoy, then feel disappointed it is over. The plot gives one an opportunity to feel the emotions of the protagonists onstage, yet laugh at them as well. Looking is certainly a keeper. The play continues its run April 1922, and April 26-28 at Acton Town Hall Centre. 7 ·The IFP· Halton Hills, Tuesday, April 17, 2012 Featuring: SERVED THURSDAY & FRIDAY 11:30 am to 2:00 pm LUNCH BUFFET $ - Roast Beef -A Assorted Salads k dH -B Baked Ham -D Dessert Table - Beanies & Wienies - Tea & Coffee 11.50 HST INCLUDED Private Catering Available ~ LIVE ENTERTAINMENT ~ Fri. & Sat. 9:30 pm - close Rock n' Roll Midnight Jewel 79 Main Street South, Georgetown 905-877-3388 The picture is simulated.
