According to data from the 2011 Census of Population, released last Wednesday, in Halton Hills the average median age of the 59,010 residents living here in 2011 was 39.9 with 79.6 per cent of those aged 15 or over. That compares similarly with region-wide stats, where the average age is 39.3 and the 80.4 per cent of the population is aged 15 and over. In the Canada-wide stats, seniors accounted for 14.8 per cent of the Canadian population in 2011, up from 13.7 per cent in 2006. See CENSUS, pg. 5 Stolen walker story prompts outpouring of offers of help By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer The community has come through in a big way for a Georgetown woman whose walker was stolen last week. After the story of the theft of Sherry Cartwright's rollator walker from her van sometime last Sunday or Monday appeared in The Independent and Free Press Thursday (May 31), the calls and emails started pouring in. Nearly two dozen people made offers to loan Cartwright a walker, give her one, or give her money so she could purchase a replacement. Offers of help also came in from a couple residents who work in the health care equipment field. Cartwright, 50, who is on a disability pension, said on Thursday evening two women stopped by her apartment separately and gave her a walker-- one exactly like the one that was stolen-- and the other a lightweight walker that Cartwright will give to a friend of hers who also needs a walker. "I am so thankful," said Cartwright of all the offers. "They made my day. I am surprised, but I also knew that Georgetown is a good community."
