The 12-year-old girls, Stephanie Leighton and Maya da Silva, who are now both doing well, each had wishes granted and are holding a bottle drive to raise funds for Children's Wish Foundation of Canada on Saturday, June 23. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Georgetown Halton Re- gional Police station, 217 Guelph St. They ask area residents to drop by with their beer and wine bottles. Stephanie who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and Maya, who was treated for ovarian cancer, met at the hospital and became good friends. For her `wish' Stephanie and her family went on a trip to Hawaii and Maya and her family went on a Disney cruise. "It was amazing," said Stephanie. "It costs $10,000 to send one kid on a wish," said Stephanie. "We thought we want to try and give back." A berry for baby? Strawberries are now in season at various local farms and Marlena Foksa and five-month-old William enjoyed some at The Farm, located on 15 Sideroad, west of Trafalgar Road. Marlena says she usually picks a few baskets to freeze. The Farm has been owned by Dean and Coring De Paoli for more then 30 years, producing lots of fine home-grown produce.
