THURSDAY, JANUARY 19 2012 Atom BB Tanners finish regular season in style The Acton Tanners Atom BB team, sponsored by Tri-Form Concrete and Algoma Contractors, finished the season in style, posting two more victories. They completed the regular season with a 17-6-5 record. First, they headed to Caledon to take on the Hawks. Stuart MacDonald set up Caleb Downs to open the scoring early in the first period. Downs found the back of the net again mid way through the first to put the Tanners up 2-0, and Jon Bydevaate and MacDonald earned p o i n t s o n t h e p l a y. Caledon squeezed one by Sebastian Woods late in the period to close the gap to 2-1. The Hawks tied it up early in the second period, but Downs bulged the twine once again and completed the natural hat trick. Michael Holmes and Bydevaate picked up assists on the goal. Once again, the Hawks scored late the second period to tie the game up at 3. Downs then set up Holmes, who banged home the puck to put the Tanners up 4-3. Bydevaate scored an unassisted marker and Downs rounded out the scoring when he threw a backhand at the net, which put the Tanners ahead for good as they went on to win 6-3. In their final regular season game, the Tanners hosted the Flamborough Sabres. Acton wasted little time to get things started, and thirty seconds into the game Luke Miehm and Chase Thomas combined on a great piece of passing to set up Ryan McAskill, who made no mistake and buried the puck. After that quick start, there wasn't much more to cheer about except the fine goaltending by Woods who had to make some great saves throughout the game to keep the Sabres off the scoreboard. Late in the third period, Flamborough pulled their goalie in an attempt to tie the game, after some crazy bounces and close calls, Brett Hilts and Holmes helped Daniel Nascimento steer the puck into the empty cage to put the Tanners up for good, final score 2-0. The Tanners are looking forward to taking some of this momentum into the playoffs and are hoping for a long playoff run. THE NEW TANNER Sports with The New Tanner first win of the season, the Tyke Chargers played a home game on January 9 against the Caledon Hawks. After a close first period, the Chargers finally broke out during the second and the third dominating the Hawks 6-1. Joshua Cheeseman (3), Jackson Gognivac, Ashtyn Pacheco and Nathan Hilts provided the scoring with assists going to Riley Targett, Deacon King, Jackson Gognivac, Ronan Harrison and Adam Holmes. Closing out the January s c h e d u l e , t h e Ty k e 13 First win for Tykes The Acton Medical and Urgent Care Center Tyke Chargers have been busy with a December 23 game against a tough Milton team. Brandon Harriot scored the lone Chargers' goal, assisted by Cadien Merriot and William Washington. Still searching for the during and just after the war when most of the men were away from home, and the ladies took a little break, and enjoyed a couple of hours socializing and dancing, (sometimes with each other), or sharing the men who were home. The line dancing is a hit. Last week, there were 15 people and this Thursday there were 25. It is a "drop in" class, and everyone is welcome. We do have one man, and would welcome more. The classes are on Thursday afternoons from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Jane McAllister's name was drawn at the 50/50 last Friday. She won $427. It's always great to see someone who works very hard at the Centre win. Congratulations Jane. Chargers travelled to Streetsville on the 15th to take on the Stingers. After three back-andforth periods, the Chargers happily played the Stingers to a 3-3 tie. Nathan Hilts, Jackson Gognivac and Joshua Cheeseman provided the scoring for Acton with assists going to Adam H o l m e s , N o a h We s t , Jesse Bodin, Jackson Gognivac and William Washington. The next Select 6 Chargers game is February 12 against the Caledon Hawks. Atom Select Chargers sink Winterhawks The Acton Chargers Atom Select team played their fifth season game recently, winning 2-1 over the Cambridge Wi n t e r h a w k s . Tayden Bachert quickly followed suit with his first goal of the season for the Chargers. Chargers defenseman Callum Pratt earned his first assists of the season, and Ben Rushlow also had an assist. The Acton Chargers see tournament action on the first weekend in February in Richmond Hill. The New Year celebration was a great success. The music was great as usual, and of course you can't go wrong with Swiss Chalet chicken and Chudleighs Apple Blossoms. The happy winner of the 50/50 was Ann Sanders. She also won a door prize, as did Connie Fix, Bob Bruce, Marg Bromby, Hank Walsma, Annie Hollander and Rita. Maria Sallay donated a beautiful original painting to our fund raising committee, and the draw was made at the dance. Victor Bis s o n n e tte w a s t he happy winner. Ladies are you feeling a little tired and in need of a little lift? There will be a Spa Day at the Centre on Tuesday, January 24 at 1 p.m. You do need to sign up, so we know how many people are intending to take advantage of this offer. This is a hands on Spa session, and you will leave feeling wonderful. Did you realize there is a comment, suggestion or compliments box at the Centre? It is red and located near the books and videos. There are sheets provided for you to use, but if you do not feel comfortable filling one out, please ask one of your board members, Wendy or Michelle to fill it out for you. You can be anonymous if you wish. The box has been there for four months and so far there have been no comments, so either we must be doing something right, or members are afraid to comment (other than to each other). The movie being featured on January 31 will be The Help , an excellent recently released movie. It is expected to win awards for the movie, director and the actors. There were no mooners at the Thursday afternoon's Bid Euchre, but there was a new member Elly Holtman learning the game. Welcome Elly. Our membership now stands at 230 paid members, which means there are still a few members who have not renewed. We have lost several long time members over the past few months as they have move into retirement homes. Does anyone remember the afternoon Tea Dances?
