There were a few birthdays this week Cathy Munday, Sharon Rouse and Amy Newman. Peg and Pat Graham celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary last weekend. Last Saturday was the Zone euchre and our Branch had six teams playing. Our Branch has two teams that are moving on to District competition. Congratulations to all the members. Remember if you have nothing to do on a Thursday afternoon why not come for a game of euchre? Meet new friends and even chat with old friends. It is a great afternoon. Cards start at 1:30, and end at 3:45 p.m. Hope to see you there. Just a reminder that the winter social is only seven days away. This is at the Streetsville Legion and the theme is Valentine's Day. Our next general meeting is on February 13, at 8 p.m. Please mark your calendar. Ladies Auxiliary Notes Congratulations to Sherri Thompson, Marg Bromby, Carol Levy and Kim Young who came in third place and Susan Poulsen, Peggy Harris, Norma Titus and Gail Gibson who came in fourth place in the qualifying round of Darts last Saturday. Both teams will be going to Dundas in April. The next general meeting will be today (Thursday). Yours in Comradeship Peggy Harris President to Branch 197 Ladies Auxiliary Groundhog Day is a holiday celebrated on February 2, when, according to folklore, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, it will leave the burrow, signifying that winter-like weather will soon end. If it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, and the winter weather will continue for six more weeks. Modern customs of the holiday involve celebrations where early morning festivals are held to watch the groundhog emerging from its burrow. The largest Groundhog Day celebration is held in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Groundhog Day, already a widely recognized and popular tradition, received widespread attention as a result of the eponymous 1993 film Groundhog D a y, w h i c h was set in Punxsutawney and portrayed Punxsutawney Phil. In Canada, the marmots to watch include Wiarton Willie and Schubenacadie Sam.
