Widow thanks Acton community A grieving Acton widow wants to make sure the people who helped make it possible for her husband to spend his last Christmas at home, know how much their help meant to their family. Doug Gerrard, 39, succumbed to Hodgkin's Ly m p h o m a a t 4 : 3 0 Tu e s d a y m o r n i n g i n Georgetown hospital, where he had been moved to on Monday. "They had sent him home with the prognosis of six months, so it went a lot faster than even the doctors thought it would," Jennifer Gerrard said on Tuesday, adding, "he was in such pain Gerrard battled cancer for 13 years and in December, his discharge from hospital was in jeopardy because he did not have a proper hospital bed and special lift ­ both which were donated to the family after an appeal in The New Tanner. Gerrard said without with donations of the hospital bed and equipment, her husband might not have been able to come home, just before Christmas. "Everybody was so amazing ­ what a wonderful community." Gerrard leaves his wife, daughters, Jessica, 13, and Ashley, 14, and a n e x t e n d e d f a m i l y.
