I was disappointed that this writer was able to readily bash local businesses without recognizing who they are and what they actually do in our community. The writer speaks of "the same ol' less than mediocre grocery store." The author is no doubt speaking of the Rockwood Foodland. I feel that people need to be aware of what local businesses do for the community whether they appreciate them or not. Rockwood Foodland is one of the most supportive businesses I know in our town. For those who don't know, they sponsor everything from sports teams, community events, the beautiful conservation To the Editor, Re: Tim Hortons-Rockwood Let us hear some word of support for Rockwood to counteract the gloom and doom put forward by the Tim Hortons propon- park, church groups, the food bank, the fire department and practically anyone who comes in asking for help. When I go into the grocery store, I am greeted by the most friendly staff, who are super helpful and fun. If you can't find what you are looking for, they will help, if they don't have it and you request it, they will get it for you. I think that is amazing of them. I don't get that kind of service from big box stores. That is what is so remarkable about our community. Businesses like Rockwood Foodland and others, who may not have a new and fresh look to them, still provide the needs of our town. I am also a small business owner that looks after the health of our community and would do anything to help those in need ents (who don't have the confidence to sign their names to their opinions). Our grocery store, though small, is well stocked for its size (the quality of its meat is excellent). We within my scope. I have held fundraisers to assist people in need in our own community as opposed to larger facilities that may not reach those right here in our backyard. Rockwood Foodland helped me provide food for my event, and in turn we raised money to help families where one was diagnosed with a neurological disorder. I hope that this letter will help our community be more proactive than reactive and pray that people look in the mirror before they look out the window. Do what's right, support their local communities, ask what they can do to help instead of bash those who are trying to make a difference. Dr. Frances Turk, BSc (honours), ND Naturopathic Doctor have a very comprehensively equipped hardware store. Heaven on Seven is as fine a bistro as you will find anywhere. Our local library is wonderful. Need your lawnmower fixed? It can be done right here in the village and our local craftspeople will build you the sofa of your choice. Rockwood an under serviced ghost town? I think not. Sure there are areas that could do with sprucing up and perhaps when all the road works are completed more businesses might open. A Tim Horton's franchise is not going to be the magic wand of change it caters to a passing trade. Let's keep Rockwood as a village with some individuality. Finally- you don't have to drive out of town for a cup of coffeemake your own (or go to the Whistlestop or DJs.)
