THURSDAY, MARCH 15, 2012 THE NEW TANNER 7 Injury accident Screams from two women injured in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 7 east of the Fourth Line alerted an area resident to the crash at 2:15 on Sunday afternoon. Police report the female victims, one a nine-yearold girl, were passengers in a 2006 Nissan registered to a 52-year-old Toronto man. The Nissan was attempting to turn left into a private driveway when it was struck by a westbound 2004 Ford ranger pickup truck, registered to a 45-year-old Georgetown man, who refused medical treatment. He was charged with careless driving and failing to produce insurance information. Driver hit by own van A 72-year-old Acton man was taken to hospital on Friday morning after becoming trapped under his vehicle in the Acton Legion parking lot. Police said the Cobblehill Road resident, driving a 2013 Plymouth van, got out of the vehicle while it was still running and failed to put it in park. The van struck the man, pinning his foot under the wheel. No other information was available at press time. Cross over Cooper A 17-year-old Hornby resident was charged with failing to drive in the marked line after his 2002 Mini Cooper crossed the centre line and collided with a 2003 Cadillac travelling in the opposite direction on 10 Side Road at Highway 25 at 6 p.m. on Saturday. There were no injuries. Snowy crash The 31-year-old Acton woman, who's 2007 Mazda spun out of control into a ditch and then hit a culvert, was not injured in the single vehicle accident on Highway 7, west of the Fifth Line at 9:25 on Friday morning. No one was injured in the accident that police said was weather related. Help yourself The owners of two cars that were left unlocked overnight March 12/13 in Acton lost personal items when the vehicles were entered. An iPod Touch valued at $230, along with insurance papers, were stolen from a vehicle parked on Birchway Place. Sunglasses valued at $200 and lose change were stolen from a vehicle parked on Elmore Drive. Landlord/tenant assault A 48-year-old Acton man was charged with assault following an altercation between a landlord and female tenant at 9 a.m. last Wednesday. Police report the tenant's husband stepped into the fight and was hit in the face by the landlord, causing minor injuries to his lip. The landlord was arrested later after being stopped for a traffic violation. Sprinkler alarm Low pressure in the sprinkler system at Purity Life on Commerce Court set off the alarm system at 1:46 a.m. on Saturday. Acton firefighters responded to the alarm and after investigating turned the building over to a company representative. Faulty detector? A Bridlewood Boulevard homeowner was advised to replace old smoke and carbon monoxide detectors after a carbon monoxide detector sounded without apparent reason at 7:23 p.m. on Saturday. Tender for two trucks Highway Sterling Western Star Inc. will supply two tandem snowplough trucks to the Town at a cost of $475,359, almost $32,000 under budget. General committee members approved staff's recommendation that the firm, which was the low bidder, receive the contract because the bid meets or e3xceed the Town's specifications, including an automatic transmission, an automatic greasing system and a rearview camera. Acton Councillor Mike O'Leary questioned what happens to the equip- WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: Members of the congregations of Acton churches celebrated the recent World Day of Prayer with a service at St. Josephs Catholic Church.
