Guelph/Eramosa Township Council agreed to waive the Township's noise bylaw for party at a Fourth Line farm. In a letter to Council, organizers said they will keep the sound equipment inside a shed on the property, will keep the volume down and will avoid music with "a large amount of bass." Because the property owners will allow the group to hook into his electrical system, they won't have to rent any noisy electrical generators. Last Wednesday, Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott stood again in the Ontario Legislature to raise the issue of the GTA West Corridor Study's Alternative 4-3. Arnott maintains that not only would Alternative 4-3 be detrimental to the community, but the Government simply cannot afford it. He highlighted a recent study commissioned by the Town of Halton Hills which demonstrated the feasibility of widening the 401. "We have recommended a sensible, cost-effective alternative, backed up by a credible engineering consultant. If the Ministry wants to ease traffic congestion through the GTA West area, they should seriously look at widening the 401," Arnott told the Legislature. Given the Government's $16-billion deficit, Arnott argued, the widening of the 401 is the best option: "Surely, in these challenging economic times, this would be a more costeffective solution than building a brand new highway along Alternative 4-3." Arnott believes that this approach could result in significant savings for the Province. Wednesday's speech was Arnott's latest effort to raise awareness of this issue in the Legislature. He has also raised the issue in Question Period, delivering a Member's Statement outlining local concerns, writing and speaking directly to both the Minister of Transportation and the Premier, and attending a briefing with senior officials at the Ministry of Transportation. During the fall Provincial election campaign, Arnott outlined a 10-point plan of actions he wanted to take to pressure the Government to abandon Alternative 4-3. He checked off the points before Christmas. However, Arnott re- mains determined to keep the Government's feet to the fire. He has drafted a petition which was included in his recent newsletter and residents are encouraged to sign it and return it to Arnott's Queen's Park office. What's Your Beef?
