The Makeover was the brainchild of former Toronto Mayor David Miller. It was such a great idea that it quickly spread throughout the GTA. The idea was to involve employees and students in the clean-up effort. Typically, business owners or school principals decide to participate and choose a start time when their employees or students are asked to go outside and do litter pick-up for 22 minutes. It is a voluntary activity for employees who generally report that they enjoy getting outside for a brief time, even though they were picking up litter. Once again, Town staff, representing all Town Departments will be encouraged to participate. This is one of the largest groups of employees who participate in the 22-Minute Makeover. Halton Hills schools now have a record of 3 straight years of 100% participation. We hope to achieve the same exceptional participation level in 2012. We encourage all participating groups to register with the Town of Halton Hills and arrange for free gloves and bags. The Litter Free Halton Hills Task Force announced that Saturday, April 21, 2012 will be the official Community-Wide Clean-Up Day. Families, church groups, service clubs, ratepayer associations and youth groups will scour the parks, ravines and roadsides of Halton Hills picking up litter and assorted debris. Although it is not necessary to be part of a group, it is more fun to do this job with family or friends. All areas of Halton Hills need to be cleaned up. Everyone is encouraged to think about the public areas they have noticed that need attention. Perhaps it is your local parkette or a nearby roadside. In some neighbourhoods, a community minded person takes the lead by printing a Clean-Up Day flyer inviting people to join their local effort at a particular location.
