Acton area residents should be alert to an e-mail scam that is making the rounds. A spam message is being sent to e-mails indicating it is from Canada Post and E-mail scam alert advising the recipient to click on a link to get a tracking number so they can claim a parcel at the Post Office. One unsuspecting resident did just that and when he went to the Acton Post Office o n Tu e s d a y w a s t o l d that it was a scam and that his computer may now be infected with a virus. He was one of four people to respond to the bogus e-mail on Tuesday. A subsequent check found a virus and the resident was advised to change his passwords. Canada Post said the anonymous authors of the e-mail (office-shipping@canadpost.ca) are using the Canada Post name and logo to get people to trust the message. If you receive an email that appears to be from Canada Post delete it. If you are expecting a package or not, and there is a tracking number, check it by going directly to www. canadapost.ca and enter the number on the home page where indicated. If the tracking number is not valid it will tell you so and the email should be deleted, without clicking on any links that may be in the e-mail.
