Of course we all have the summer time chores on our to-do list like weeding the garden, cutting the grass or washing our car however, we live in such an amazing area with so many things so close for us to experience. In the past few months we have got both the Halton Hills Visitors Guide and the County of Wellington Festivals and Events Guide in our mail box and I will tell you there are a lot of things happening. First, two important weekly things that happen in Acton is the Saturday morning Trunk Sale, which has been around for over a decade. The other thing that is quickly approaching is the Thursday afternoon farmer's market downtown. The trunk sale is a great place to wander around, people watch and hunt for bargains while the market is the perfect size to get fresh produce, baked goods and hopefully the Roxy is back with their awesome ice cream. By Angela Tyler I've looked over the visitors guides quite a few times finding great outings for my family. Here are some that I've found that look like a great time. This weekend in Fergus there is an Ultimate Frisbee event that brings players from "around the globe". How cool is that? I can't say I've played Frisbee in a long time or that I am very good, but I bet its fun. For Canada Day, there are events in Glen Williams, and our own awesome fireworks put on by our fire department. If the strawberries are still going you can make a stop at one of the many farms in the area and have a great Canada Day with a parade, strawberries and ice cream, a lakeside concert at the Legion with our Acton Citizen's Band, and end the day with the fireworks. At the end of July there is a "Two Cylinder Show" in Drayton which is far enough to be considered a road trip but close enough that the kids aren't asking "are we there yet". A good old fashioned tractor show with a tractor pulls. It could be a great outing for fathers and sons of any age. In August, of course we have our Leathertown Festival, and there is also a classic car show in Georgetown. If you are looking for something a little more relaxing, the Wellington County Museum has an outdoor concert series that is free on Thursday nights. And if you're looking for a "fall fair" we've got them too. Mark the dates on your calendar Georgetown September 7-9, Acton September 14-16, Milton September 21-23, Erin October 5-8. These are just a few small things that are happening and if you are looking for a day outing or even for local mini-vacation ideas you can check out the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce website at www. haltonhillschamber.on.ca or for events in Wellington www.wellingtonfestivals.ca
