The Great Solar Cook-Off Contest is taking place on Sunday, August 19, 2-3:30 p.m. This year Willow Park Ecology Centre (WPEC) is encouraging groups (families, friends, co-workers etc.) to create their own solar cooking device and enter it in the cooking challenge. You can create your own model, or you can check out the WPEC website for links for easy and cost-effective suggestions. If you are feeling really adventurous, you can bring along your own recipe which can be cooked using solar-energy. Whether it is a main dish, dessert or drink, all recipe ideas are welcome! Prizes will be awarded based on solar oven performance and creativity. Renewable energy demonstrations will also be taking place. You will have to check out WPEC's own Renewable Energy Station located in the Pavilion at the park in Norval (off Mary St.) Come out for a bit of friendly competition and a lesson on the value of renewable energy! It is important to note that you need to build your solar cooker before the event as the challenge requires you to cook something in it.
