22 ·The IFP· Halton Hills ·Thursday, August 9, 2012 SENIORS LIFESTYLES Raffle sales continue in Georgetown By FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre This is certainly a summer to remember with many days of extreme heat and little or no rain. I hope you have made use of our cool Centre. The girls in the office have been making use of the slow summer schedule to put together some interesting new programs to begin in September. Imagine! That is only a month away! I bet the kids are excited about that. About nine of us took advantage of a nine and dine golf afternoon at Lowville Golf Course sponsored by Chartwell Residence in Oakville. We had a great time and were treated quite royally. It would have helped to have been a mountain goat to play that course. On Saturday, July 28 we were back down at the Farmers' Market to sell our raffle tickets. We have some people to thank for their assistance, the Cubs and two of their leaders who loaned us their dinner tent and who came to set it up and take it down, those of you who brought my friend and I coffee and goodies, and everyone who came by to buy tickets and chatted. We were able to promote our Centre in many ways and perhaps change the ideas some people have of a Seniors' Centre. Our fundraiser continues and we still have lots of tickets to sell. You will be able to find our table at the Georgetown mall on Saturday, Aug.11 and Saturday, Aug. 25. Of course, tickets are always available at the Centre. Drop in, look around and buy some raffle tickets. Open House Week will be held from September 10-14. It begins on the first day with a Chinese lunch and entertainment. The cost is $15 per person and tickets are now on sale at Reception. If you have signed up for Ragtime at the Shaw Festival Theatre on Wednesday, Sept. 5 you may drop off your payment as soon as possible. While you are doing that make sure to sign up for Oktoberfest on Wednesday, Oct.10. Seniors Calendar Bid euchre and euchre is held 7 p.m. every Saturday at the Georgetown Seniors Centre, 318 Guelph St. Cost: $3/player. Also euchre first/third Tuesday and bid euchre second/fourth Tuesday, 7 p.m. at the Centre. Info: 905-702-5312 or www.haltonaphasiacentre.com Donate your pennies in Acton There was no winner of the weekly 50/50 so next week the prize money should be about $180. Now is the time when people are making jams and pickles from the produce in their gardens or from the fruit markets. If you think of it, please make an extra one for our Christmas Bazaar, which is on Saturday, Nov. 24. Everyone loves homemade pickles, relishes and jams. The Acton Seniors Centre would like extend condolences to John and Marg Hoare and family on the passing of a very special lady, May Hoare. May was a member of the Centre for many years until she moved to Guelph last year. She loved playing cards on a Thursday afternoon. On July 25, Acton and Georgetown seniors enjoyed their trip to Rama. Stephanie Westaway won the 50/50, lucky seats were Maria Richardson, Cassy Ladley, Tony Collucci and Eleanor Hughson. Celebrating birthdays were Rita Court, Rose Morrison and Linda Spatari. By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre If you are interested in becoming a member of the Acton Seniors Recreation Centre the magic number is 55 plus. If you join during August the membership fee would be pro-rated to start in September (August would be free). I understand that pennies have been granted a reprieve and will still be legal tender until after Christmas. We have had quite a few donated, but if you still have a jar of pennies at home gathering dust and are looking for a worthy cause, we would put them to good use. They don't need rolling as we have a member that volunteers to roll coins for us. We are also collecting Canadian Tire money, to purchased items needed at the Centre. Betty Green with the Travel Desk asked me to mention that if you are planning to see Cirque du Soleil on Sept. 16, you must pay by Friday, Aug. 17. 130 Mill Street East, Acton Full & Partial Dentures Implant Retained Dentures Precision Dentures (BPS® Certified) Same Day Service for Repairs & Relines Dental Lab On Site No Referrals Needed Seniors Lifestyles Please call for a tour 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Accredited by: Creating confident smiles since 1982.
