Dog owner finds more rat poison while other owner mourns pet By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer Velda Webb of Georgetown is mourning the loss of her beloved year-and-ahalf old Shih Tzu Tucker who died last month after eating what is believed to be rat poison. Tucker's death is the second incident reported to The Independent & Free Press over the past couple of weeks of dogs ingesting rat poison. Webb contacted the newspaper after reading about another Georgetown dog owner Nicky Snook's agility champion Australian red kelpie Roper who ate rat poison found in their backyard July 24. Fortunately, Snook saw the rat poison immediately after Roper ate it and rushed TUCKER him to the vet who induced vomiting. He's on daily doses of Vitamin K and Snook is hoping he'll be okay. But Snook said on Saturday more rat poison was found in her back yard. This time, however, none of her dogs ate the poison. "I'm just sickened by this," said Snook. The second batch of poison was found in roughly the same area as the first. She has contacted police to investigate. "It's very disturbing," said Snook. Webb, of south Georgetown, said Tucker died July 7, and the autopsy came back with rodenticide toxicity as the suspected cause. Her prized agility dog Roper was treated for ingesting poison last month and was still recovering when this piece was found last weekend. Another local woman says her dog Tucker (left) died after eating poison last month. About five houses away from her home she said Tucker went onto the grass and let out a loud yelp. "He laid down and he was paralyzed," said Webb. A neighbour came and got Webb, and when she picked Tucker up urine was leaking out, she said.
