Wide variety of entertainment planned 5 ·The IFP· Halton Hills, Thursday, August 9, 2012 Leathertown Festival takes over Acton Sunday Everyone is encouraged to come out to the 21st Leathertown Festival in downtown Acton on Sunday. Opening ceremonies will be held at noon. The main outdoor stage will be in the United Church parking lot at Mill St. E. and Elgin St. Chuck Jackson and the All-Stars will be headlining at 1:30 p.m. The All Stars include Downchild musical director, Mike Fonfara, who has also recorded with Lou Reed and Foreigner. Saxophonist Pat Carey is a seven-time Maple Blues Horn Player of the Year award winner. Taking the stage at 3 p.m. will be Cosmic Warehouse Band featuring keyboardist Jimmy Bruton who toured with rock guitarist Kim Mitchell. Bruton, along with Mitchell, was a founding member of Toronto-based rock band Max Webster. Bass guitarist Gord Dowling is a long-time Acton resident. The Mike Branton Band-- true blues all the way-- will perform from 4 to 5 p.m. Considered possibly the best blues guitarist in the world, this prodigy recently returned from performing at The Monterey Blues Festival in California. Acton's Got Talent finalist Nikki Grelle, 11, will amaze the audience with her complex contortionist routine at 11:30 a.m. before the noon opening ceremonies. Kicking off the day at 11 a.m. on the main stage is Tribal Thunder playing handcrafted drums, wind and percussion instruments. Assembled according to the teaching and traditions of the Warrior's Roadway, the spiritual warriors work to bring the unifying force of rhythm to each member of the human family. Acton resident Monty Greig, brings his passion for jazz and jazz standards to life with his crooner style show at 2 and 3 p.m. on the Peek-a-Boo stage. Festival-goers will be able to catch all the fun magic with Ray Anderson A Cool Magician from Georgetown at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. on the Peek-a-Boo stage. Bogle the Magic Clown will open the day on the Peek-a-Boo stage and also at 3:30 p.m. Total Dance Innovation will perform at 12:45 p.m. on the main stage and McGuinley Irish Dancers will take the Peek-a-Boo stage at 1 p.m. Erin radio personality and Acton resident Lee Lakin will emcee the event. Also included in the many activities will be a visit by Tumblebus, a gym on wheels filled with fun equipment. It's a full-sized school bus converted into a safe and fun fitness area containing the bars, vault, rings, rebounder and monkey bars, zip line and much more. WEEKEND FORECAST...
